Wayang Kulit - Abimanyu

Ki Anom Suroto, born in Juwiring, Klaten Regency, Central Java, August 11, 1948, is a puppeteer for Wayang Kulit Purwa. He became famous as a puppeteer since around 1975. He learned puppetry since he was 12 years old from his own father, Ki Sadiyun Harjadarsana. Apart from that, he directly and indirectly learned a lot from Ki Nartasabdo and several other senior puppeteers.

The best-selling puppeteer has also studied at the Puppetry Course held by the Surakarta Cultural Association (HBS), learned indirectly from the Pasinaon Dalang Mangkunegaran (PDMN), Pawiyatan Kraton Surakarta, and has even studied at Habiranda, Yogyakarta. While studying at Habiranda he used the pseudonym Margono.

In 1968, Anom Suroto appeared on RRI (Radio Republik Indonesia), after going through a strict selection. In 1978 he was appointed as a servant dalem at Penewu Anon-anon under the name Mas Ngabehi Lebdocarito.

Until the end of the twentieth century, Anom Suroto was the only one who had demonstrated in five continents, including in the United States in 1991, in the context of the KIAS (Indonesian Culture in the US) exhibition. He has also demonstrated in Japan, Spain, West Germany, Australia and many other countries. Especially to increase the awareness of puppetry about the gods, Dr. Soedjarwo, Chairman of Sena Wangi, once sent Ki Anom Suroto to India, Nepal, Thailand, Egypt and Greece.
